The Four Realms

There are four realms to the Don’t Let The Old Man In ethic.  They are: the intellectual, the physical, the emotional and the spiritual.

The intellectual realm encompasses the life of the mind, the life cerebral.  The physical realm encompasses the things relevant to the body, primarily diet, exercise and sleep.  The emotional realm encompasses feelings and psychological aspects of our being.  The spiritual encompasses the life of the soul and things transcendent, notably a realm that is too often ignored.

All of the content of this blog will deal in some way with issues in these four realms.  Two important considerations need to be articulated at the outset.

The first is that we need to be deliberate and proactive in addressing these realms.  They need to be actively and continually managed.  They will not automatically develop in a healthy way, pursuing them requires our effort and initiative.  Everyone has experiences in these realms whether they identify them or not.  The name of the game is identifying them and consciously managing them.

The second consideration is that we need to keep them in balance.  These realms are interrelated and are only identified as separate buckets for conceptual purposes.  They all work together and when one is out of balance it can affect the others. It is very important that they be kept in balance.  If you are exercising for three hours a day, that may be great, but not if it is to the detriment of other important areas of your life.

As previously stated, this blog will address these realms.  The two things to keep in mind as you consider them are:  Proactivity in managing them and keeping them in balance.
