Surprising Life Lessons in generosity, gratitude, and curiosity from an ultralight backpacker

By Glen Van Peski

Van Peski is the founder of Gossamer Gear, a company that markets ultralight backpacking equipment.  The book uses his backpacking and life experiences to showcase some very important life lessons.  I found several chapters inspirational, particularly one about rewriting our personal narratives.

While backpackers will enjoy the book for occasional  advice on equipment and technique, it is definitely a book targeted to a general audience.  You needn’t be a backpacker to enjoy it. The backpacking theme is really only a leverage point for the broader messages of the book.

Van Peski’s writing is straightforward and honest.  The book is written in a very fresh and readable style.

Van Peski is a man that is definitely not letting the Old Man in.   While his advice is relevant for those of any age, it may be particularly relevant for us of riper years.  It is never too late to change or think differently and Van Peski provides some sage advice on those possibilities.
