KOMO Award- Dr. Howard Tucker
KOMO awards are often given to men who have performed extraordinary physical feats at advanced ages. This KOMO award goes to an individual of amazing mental achievement. Dr. Howard Tucker, age 103, is a neurologist who is in the Guinness Book of Records as the current oldest practicing doctor. Born in 1922, he served in the US Navy in WWII and would later serve as Chief of Neurology for the Atlantic Fleet during the Korean War. Because he probably got bored with neurology, he completed a law degree and passed the Ohio bar at age 67!
In an April 2023 piece for CNBC, Dr. Tucker offered five pieces of life advice that have served him well:
1. Staying active, not retiring (not advice many of us will take, but hard to argue with its effectiveness in his case)
2. Staying in shape
3. Not smoking
4. Not restricting himself to a narrow number of activities
5. Not letting the vast knowledge and changes he’s seen be wasted.
As a 103-year-old man with a medical and law degree, Dr. Tucker has serious street cred, we should probably listen to his advice. He is keeping the Old Man to an extraordinary degree.
